DBT treatment is designed to help with extreme emotional instability, which clinicians call “dysregulation” — the inability to manage intense emotions. Dysregulation leads to impulsive, self-destructive, or self-harming behaviors. The focus of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is to teach adolescents skills to help them recognize and understand their emotions without judgment (mindfulness) and also to give them skills and techniques to effectively manage those emotions and change behaviors in ways that will improve their lives. It takes work and commitment from both the adolescents and their caregivers.
In addition to DBT, The Dialectical Behavior Therapy Center of Arizona also specializes in other forms of evidence-based treatments (EBT’s) such as:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
- Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)
- Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
- Prolonged Exposure (PE)
- Exposure Therapy
- Exposure with Response Prevention
- Habit Reversal
- etc.
Your therapist will tailor your treatment plan specifically for you.
